Lolita. Lo-lee-ta
Lolita. Lolita. Lolita. I could go on. This book is absolutely amazing, in my opinion. For those of you who are familiar with it, hopefully you know why I am raving about it. For those of you who aren't, it was written in English by Vladimir Nabokov and published in 1955 à Paris, and was then translated by the author into Russian and published in New York in 1958. The protagonist and narrator, Humbert Humbert, describes his taboo relationship with Delores Haze (Lolita). I don't want to give too much away to those who haven't read it, but the novel has attained Classic status and is one of the most controversial examples of 20th century literature. I am re-reading it for the 2nd time, and, not surprisingly, I can't put it down. As one of my good friends says, "I only read Nabokov," and when reading Lolita, it's apparent why.
